Our neighbourhood team has also updated us some information regarding an Operation they have been running throughout the Winter months:-

Operation Byway is a joint operation with North Yorkshire Police and Rangers from Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

Op Byway is about education and enforcement of the use of green lanes in the national park.

We have conducted 6 Sunday events throughout Winter, when wear and damage can easily be caused , focusing on Wensleydale and Upper dales as well as Swaledale and Coverdale. There were officers from Richmondshire and The Dales neighbourhood team, Op Orbit – the North Yorkshire Police off road motorcycle team and Yorkshire Dales National Park Rangers.

The day is spent engaging with people using green lanes, like off road motorcycle enthusiasts and 4×4 groups, ensuring they use byways and highways responsibly. Ensuring that comply with relevant traffic laws and any vehicles are fully road legal,  and staying off prohibited areas.

As Summer approaches the main focus will shift towards road safety rather than off road use.
