The Town Council, through a sub-committee headed by Kathy Wheeler comprising residents and councillors, has attracted significant external funding for a major revamp of the older children’s play area in Park Lane.  A residents’ survey had indicated overwhelming support for new equipment aimed at 9 to 13 year olds and an ambitious design with a ‘wow’ factor was drawn up.

An image of the new installation can be seen below. As one might expect in Middleham with its historical castle, a structure with a castle outline will be installed. It will provide a large, multi-functional frame including two slides, monkey bars, climbing wall and fireman’s pole, addressing what the survey respondents had indicated they would like to see. The existing swing will be replaced.  It is hoped to relocate the older swing elsewhere.

The total value of the new installation is £44,600 (plus VAT that Council will recover).  Altogether £41,750 of external funding was secured from 3 sources and the Town Council wishes to thank these organisations for their generosity.

  • Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund £21,750
  • Richmondshire District Council Play Park Funding Scheme 2021-22 £10,000
  • National Lottery Awards for All £10,000

The Town Council will make a contribution of £5,258.

Instruction has been given to Streetscape, the chosen supplier, to manufacture the equipment at its factory in Selby North Yorkshire.  Subject to lead times and weather, it is hoped to instal the equipment by March next year.  Council plans to have an official opening ceremony.

Children’s Christmas Party – cancelled

The Children’s Party on Saturday 11 December has been cancelled.  A Covid risk assessment, which needs to be undertaken for all public events, highlighted that doors and windows in the Key Centre would be open to ensure the anticipated numbers of children and adults could remain safe.   The conclusion, regrettably, as that it just wasn’t practical.  Council is very sorry as  this event has always been very popular and could not take place last year.   Hopefully future years will be better.  Thank you to those who came forward and offered to help.

Council hopes that you will be able to join the Christmas Lights switching on ceremony and carols singing in The Market Square, Friday 3rd December at 6.30pm
