RDC Announces Refurbishment of Richmond Swimming Pool

PRESS RELEASE

RICHMOND POOL INVESTMENT CONFIRMED

Major refurbishment work at Richmond swimming pool has received the go ahead from district councillors.

Members of the authority’s full council last night (April 20) gave the green light to £1.26m investment at the pool to fund a programme of external improvements to ‘future proof’ the facility.

They also agreed to a new five year funding agreement and a 20 year lease – Richmondshire District Council owns the pool but has leased it to the Richmondshire Leisure Trust since 2005.

The last major refurbishment work on the building had been in 1994 thanks to National Lottery and council money – since then it has only seen reactive and preventative maintenance work undertaken.  This scheme will see a new roof, ventilation system, pool glazing and curtain walling fitted and solar panels installed.

Members of the council’s corporate board had recommended the spend when they met last week (April 13) – full council also approved their recommendations for a £220,000 street lighting improvement project and a £400,000 play park grant scheme.
